Zeus Olympios kept his unbeaten record intact in style, lowering the colours of hot favourite Opera Ballo with a commanding display.

Karl Burke’s son of Night Of Thunder came into the contest with momentum after his Haydock success earlier in the month, and on the Rowley Mile he took another significant step forward, passing his sternest examination yet with authority.

Stablemate Flight Plan ensured an honest gallop in the BoyleSports Group Two, Clifford Lee tracking the pace on the keen 2-1 second favourite, while William Buick had Opera Ballo poised just in behind, ready to strike.

The Appleby runner loomed up travelling strongly two furlongs out, but Lee had Zeus Olympios primed. Asked to quicken, he surged into top gear and swept past inside the final furlong, putting the race to bed with a decisive turn of foot. At the line, the margin was a clear two and a quarter lengths — and the unbeaten record remained intact.
