Newmarket Provides a Day to Savour
18/10/08

A sensational day’s action on The NatWest Rowley Mile, which featured six Group races and the historic totesport.com Cesarewitch, saw New Approach become only the third horse in history to win the Dewhurst, Derby and Champion Stakes after Ormonde and Lemberg.

Newmarket Managing Director Stephen Wallis said: “When you follow racing, it’s about moments that you treasure and remember. And the way New Approach won here today, achieving something that has only been done twice before in 150 years, it’s one of those moments when you go home and say ‘I was there’.”

He added: “The crowd figure is reasonably consistent with what’s been going on here most of the season and is down slightly, though at 14,117, it’s down less than ten per cent so it has held up better than some other days.”
