Godolphin’s homebred filly Dance To The Music proved her May debut success on the Rowley Mile was no one-hit wonder, digging deep to keep her unbeaten record intacts.

Drawn to track the tempo, the Dubawi filly — sent off at 11-4 — settled neatly into second, keeping the leader within arm’s reach as they moved through halfway. Callum Shepherd waited, biding time until the quarter pole, when the signal came to quicken.

Sliding into the lead approaching the final furlong, she was immediately pressed on both sides — Princess Petrol closing on one flank, Venetian Lace trying to thread a path on the other. But with her head down and stride unbroken, Dance To The Music found enough in the last 100 yards to hold them at bay, the judge confirming a neck over Princess Petrol, with Venetian Lace another half-length away in third.

It was a performance that combined poise with grit — the kind of display that suggests there may be even more to come as the season builds towards autumn.
