Linguistic wins the £200,000 Tattersalls Millions 3-Y-O Trophy for John Gosden
Market support for Linguistic proved accurate and , although the Aidan O'Brien trained Landofhopeandglory became the eighth favourite in eight runnings of this race to be beaten, there was notable late support for John Gosden's colt, who was sent off second in the market at 3/1.
Runner-up in both juvenile starts, the son of Lope De Vega travelled strongly on the far side of the pack, just off the pace set by Brave Hero who wore the first colours of Godolphin.
The inexperienced leader hung across the track in the final furlong, doing few favours to placed horses Biodynamic (third) and Harlequeen (second) but Linguistic had already flown by that stage and had enough in hand to cross the line a length and a quarter clear of the closers.
The winning trainer, said: "That was a good way to break your maiden. He was a little fresh early on but he settled well.
"The race rather fell apart and William felt that he was left in front earlier than he wanted. He looked about a bit and he was entitled to.
"He appreciated the ground and the step up in trip and we will look towards the Dante Stakes."
