Saratoga confirmed his upward trajectory over hurdles with an authoritative display, striking in the familiar colours of JP McManus under Mark Walsh.
Already a winner at the Cheltenham Festival in the Fred Winter, the Padraig Roche-trained gelding was sent off at 9/2 in a competitive renewal, with much of the market focus centred on Triumph Hurdle hero Apolon De Charnie and Henry de Bromhead’s Matin Midi Et Soir.
However, neither of the principals was able to land a meaningful blow, both struggling to make an impact as the race unfolded.
By contrast, Saratoga travelled with purpose throughout, moving into contention smoothly before asserting with authority in the straight. Once in front, he pulled clear in decisive fashion to seal a dominant success.
At the line, he was three and three-quarter lengths clear of Bartholomew, with Willie Mullins responsible for the next three home in Macho Man, Charme De Faust and Majolique.
