You Got To Me, the Irish Oaks heroine, is set to compete in a race that will be crucial in determining whether connections can start dreaming of the prestigious Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in the autumn.
Trained by Ralph Beckett, this Nathaniel filly made an impressive comeback by winning the Lingfield Oaks Trial earlier in the season. Her solid performance in the Epsom edition of the fillies-only Classic resulted in a creditable fourth-place finish.
In the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot, she raced keenly but showed significant improvement with the application of a tongue-tie. Her second attempt at Classic glory at the Curragh was a memorable day for her team.
With stablemate Bluestocking likely to run in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes this weekend, the opportunity opens up for You Got To Me to compete at York on August 22. If she performs well on the Knavesmire, her entry for Europe’s richest middle-distance contest in Paris on October 6 awaits.

Alex Elliott, racing adviser to owners Valmont (who jointly own the filly with Newsells Park Stud), believes that York is the logical step. Taking on older fillies for the first time, You Got To Me faces the challenge with confidence. The flat track and mile-and-a-half distance at York will provide valuable insights into her abilities against elders.
Currently rated 111, a successful outing could lead to consideration for the prestigious Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. As a three-year-old filly with allowances, she would be a fitting contender for the Arc.
The Irish Oaks success marked a significant moment for Anthony Ramsden of Valmont during the early stages of his ownership journey. This victory brought Classic glory for the first time and validated Valmont’s buying policy. The particular 200,000 guineas yearling thrived at three years old.
Elliott expressed his excitement: “It’s what we’re all in it for, and it was a great day from top to bottom.”
Valmont focuses on purchasing three-year-old types as yearlings, a strategy that requires patience. Starting this approach in 2021, they acquired You Got To Me in 2022, making her success even more special.
Winning a Classic can take a lifetime, and Valmont feels blessed to achieve it so early. Jockey Hector Crouch, a key part of both Ralph Beckett’s and Valmont’s operation, rode You Got To Me to victory. Despite it being only his second ride at the Curragh, Hector delivered an exceptional performance on the round track.
