Virginia walks on Waters 01/05/05
Kieren Fallon steered Virginia Waters home in the 1000 Guineas to land a remarkable owner, trainer and jockey guineas double.

The pair were successful in the colts' equivalent with Footstepsinthesand on Saturday and the 12-1 shot flew late to capture the fillies' race in some style as she left Maids Causeway toiling back in second.

Vista Bella ran on well to finish third under Philip Robinson.

Double Guineas Scorer Fallon On Cloud Nine

Riding his luck, Kieren Fallon, who only rode Virginia Waters in the 1000 Guineas because his original mount, former ante-post favourite Damson, scoped badly after her final workout, was in high spirits after emulating Lester Piggott (1970) by completing the classic double. [more]

Virginia Waters Oaks Favourite

Virginia Waters, impressive winner of the 1000 Guineas, is not entered in the Vodafone Oaks, but Aidan O’Brien, on a high after completing the Newmarket classic double, intimated that Sue Magnier’s filly could well be supplemented for Epsom, for which she is a top-priced 6/1 favourite with Cashmans. [more]

Historic Guineas Record

Aidan O’Brien and Kieren Fallon became the first trainer/jockey to complete the 2000 Guineas/ 1000 Guineas since Noel Murless and George Moore attained this remarkable double with Royal Palace and Fleet in 1967. Royal Palace and Fleet were not however owned by the same person. Royal Palace was the property of Jim Joel, while Fleet belonged to R C Boucher. [more]

Maids Causeway Finds Virginia Waters Too Powerful

Barry Hills had predicted a big run from 5/1 favourite Maids Causeway and he was not far wrong as his filly found just Virginia Waters two and a half lengths too strong. [more]

O'Brien Seeks Full House

Success with Virginia Waters in today’s 1000 Guineas would complete a full house of British classics for Aidan O’Brien. [more]
