Michael Jarvis is looking forward to stepping up Yaqeen into Group
company when she tackles the Stan James 1000 Guineas. The Green Desert filly will be returning to the NatWest Rowley Mile
course just two-and-a-half weeks after she broke her maiden in convincing
style. Jarvis’s charge, making her second career start, came home with
two lengths to spare in a seven-furlong event. Jarvis said: “I was impressed at the way she accelerated down the hill, went through the gap and quickened up the hill. From the style of running, I think she would have been a clear-cut winner over a mile.” The light-framed filly was pretty straight for her seasonal bow but
Jarvis hopes the experience won’t have been wasted on Yaqeen. He said: “She was fairly fit that day so I don’t think
that she is going to be a lot fitter than she was then. “But I think she will have learnt a lot in the race. She would
have gained quite a bit of experience, having to quicken up and come
through a gap. “It is difficult to say that she would win the Guineas on what she has done. But I think there is a lot of potential there.” Jarvis knows all about triumphing on the 1000 Guineas stage. He sent
out Ameerat to land the 2001 renewal for what was the Kremlin House
trainer’s first domestic Classic victory. But Yaqeen faces 22 rivals in what appears an intriguing contest for the best filly milers. Finsceal Beo, last year’s Rockfel Stakes and Prix Marcel Boussac winner, heads the market, while trainer Jeremy Noseda appears to have a strong hand in the shape of 2006 Cherry Hinton winner Sander Camillo and also Fillies’ Mile scorer Simply Perfect. Indian Ink from the powerful Richard Hannon yard is another with Group-1 winning form to her name. Top-class Irish form is represented by Moyglare Stud Stakes winner Miss Beatrix with Arch Swing and Theann also journeying across the Irish Sea to racing’s HQ. Scarlet Runner, who triumphed in the Shadwell Nell Gwyn Stakes at
last month’s Craven meeting, heads back to the track, while Mick
Channon is set to be ably served by Sweet Lilly and Treat. The field is completed by Barshiba, Bicoastal, Blue Rocket, Cartimandua, Darrfonah, Fantasy Parkes, Kasseema, Princess Valerina, Puggy, Satulagi, Selinka and Vital Statistics.
