Blue Bolt enhanced her growing reputation with an authoritative victory, prompting trainer Andrew Balding to set his sights on Group One targets.

Sent off the 5-2 favourite, the Juddmonte-owned daughter of Blue Point overcame a wide draw thanks to a positive ride from Colin Keane, who secured a handy midfield position before launching his challenge in the home straight.

Blue Bolt swept into contention approaching the final furlong and quickly put the race to bed, drawing clear to score by almost two lengths.

Irish challenger Jancis stayed on well to finish second at odds of 16-1, while Friendly Soul, who encountered trouble in running, produced a strong late burst to claim third.

Runner-up in last season’s Sun Chariot Stakes, Blue Bolt had advertised her wellbeing with a Listed success at Goodwood and now appears poised for another crack at the highest level.

Balding said: “Apart from her first run at Southwell, where things didn’t really go to plan, she has never run a bad race. We’ve had this contest in mind for some time and it’s always satisfying when a plan comes together.

“The aim now would be a Group One, most likely the Falmouth Stakes. She’s already been placed at that level and deserves another opportunity.

“She’s a star. She’s settling much better this season, which has really helped, and Colin gave her an excellent ride from what wasn’t an easy draw.

“We know she stays a mile, so that’s likely to remain her trip for the time being.”

Keane said: “She progressed throughout last year and returned with a lovely run earlier this season, so we came here full of hope.

“You’re never overconfident at Royal Ascot, especially against Group One winners, but we felt she was still improving.

“She’s very uncomplicated and looks to be heading towards Group One company. She’s matured with age and experience and hopefully there’s more improvement to come.

“I’m fortunate to ride in these colours and even more fortunate to ride winners for Juddmonte here.”

Willie McCreery said of Jancis: “She’s done herself proud. She absolutely loves fast ground and just kept galloping all the way to the line.

“A very good filly beat us, but we’d happily take her on again. We’ll probably be looking at Group One races from here and just hope we get the fast conditions she enjoys.

“Sean was delighted with how she travelled and quickened, although the winner simply found a little more.”

Sean Levey added: “She’s improving all the time. I rode her a little handier than usual and took advantage of the room on the inside before switching back out.

“For a moment I thought I had the winner covered, but when Colin asked his filly she found another gear. Ours has still run a very solid race.”

John Gosden said of Friendly Soul: “She spent a long time in the stalls and then got squeezed from both sides at the start, which left her with far too much to do.

“She made a tremendous run up the rail but couldn’t quite get through before staying on strongly for third. It was an excellent effort in the circumstances.”

Oisin Murphy added: “It was a messy race from the outset. She got badly hampered leaving the stalls and that left us with too much ground to make up.”
