Cheveley Park Stud Weighing Up UAE Hydra Properties Falmouth Options
02/07/08

Cheveley Park Stud could have as many as three runners in the UAE Hydra Properties Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket on Wednesday, July 9 - the opening day of the 2008 Ritz Club July Festival.

Heaven Sent, Infallible, Spacious and Hip - a likely pacemaker - are all under consideration for the £200,000 Group One contest at The July Course. However, Cheveley Park Stud managing director Chris Richardson indicated that ground conditions are likely to play a major part in the decision-making process regarding which horses line up.

He said: "You certainly want to have as many chances as possible in a race such as this, but I'm not quite sure, at this stage, which of our horses will actually run.

“If we were to get some rain it would enhance the likelihood of Infallible lining up. If it were to stay largely dry and the ground remained on the fast side of good, it's more than likely Heaven Sent would take her chance. With Spacious, who didn't quite spark at Ascot, it will depend on how things are."

All three fillies were in action at the Royal meeting. James Fanshawe's charge Spacious finished fourth in the Coronation Stakes, while the John Gosden-trained Infallible ran most creditably to finish second to Lush Lashes in the same Group One contest.

Richardson added: "Infallible ran a great race and the time was very good.

"She has come out of her race really well and John is happy with her. There are those who feel that she doesn't quite stay a mile and - along with fast ground - that would be another concern regarding her participation at Newmarket.

"We may at some stage drop her in trip but there are not many options over seven furlongs at the highest level. The Sussex Stakes at Goodwood is an easier mile and that race is a possibility.

"Spacious ran a bit below par in the Coronation and her rider Jamie Spencer felt that she didn't sparkle. If James is happy and we are happy, then fine, we may run her in the Falmouth Stakes. But we are not going to rush her back - we want her 100 per cent."

Heaven Sent looked the likely winner of the Windsor Forest Stakes at Ascot before going down to Sabana Perdida in the final strides.

Richardson added: "She is a filly who, when she hits the front, says, 'right, I've done enough'. Possibly she got a bit tired in the last 100 yards but she was looking around at the end and sadly just got collared. But she has come out of it in good form and likes quick ground."

The familiar red, white and blue silks were previously carried to success in the Falmouth Stakes by the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Lovers Knot in 1998.
