Household Cavalry Coming to Lambourn Charity Open Day

For the last 21 years, Lambourn, ‘The Valley of the Racecourse’ has opened its doors to the thousands of visitors who flock to the annual, Betfair sponsored, Lambourn Charity Open Day which is once again taking place this Good Friday, 2nd April.

To celebrate the milestone of this unique and popular charity event, which was established in 1990, all the stops have been pulled out to ensure a memorable day for all the family. One of the main attractions and a special treat for 2010 will be the magnificent Household Cavalry performing their Musical Ride. Visitors will also get to see top past and present jockeys including John Francome and Tony McCoy competing against the Household Cavalry in a thrilling show jumping competition.

The Betfair Lambourn Open Day attracts visitors from far and wide who attend to not only have access to the many Lambourn training establishments but also to visit the Kingwood Stud, The Racing Museum, Chapel Forge Farriers and the Equine Veterinary Hospital as well as having the opportunity to witness horses swimming in the hydrotherapy pool at Windsor House Stables.

In the afternoon an exciting array of events take place in the centre of Lambourn which many of the top jockeys kindly take part in on one a their very few ‘days off’ from racing. Events taking place this year alongside the range of tradestands, demonstrations and entertainment for visitors to enjoy include:

1.00p.m: Newbury Racecourse Parade of the Vine and Craven Foxhounds
1.20p.m: Cyril the Squirrel and his Racing Terriers sponsored by Ladbrokes
2.00p.m: The Household Cavalry Musical Ride to include the 4 State Trumpeters and the Queen's Drum Horse
2.30p.m: Schooling over Fences and Hurdles with top Jockeys sponsored by Bedmax
2.55p.m: Parade of Equine Heroes to include Champion Hurdle winner Binocular. Sponsored by O'Gorman, Slater, Main and Partners and held In aid of Help For Heroes
3.15pm: Show Jumping – Five Soldiers from the Household Cavalry against our leading Jockeys, past and present
4.00pm: Presentation of the Corney and Barrow Cup for the best yard and raffle

Thousands of people have enjoyed this unique event over the years, and both The Lambourn Valley Housing Trust which works for the welfare and the Lambourn stable staff and their families and Thames Valley Air Ambulance are beneficiaries of all money raised on the day.

The Betfair Lambourn Open Day starts from 8.30am and afternoon entertainment commences at 1pm.

Admission prices:

- £12 for racing yards and afternoon entertainment

- Children under 12 free

- Ample free parking available.
