Twice in a Blue Moon Rose for Midday
21/08/10

Leading online Bookmakers Bluesquare have presented trainer Henry Cecil with a special rose bush to mark the back-to-back wins of Midday in the 2009 and 2010 renewals of the Blue Square Nassau Stakes.

The rose, appropriately named, Twice in a Blue Moon, was presented to Henry Cecil at York ahead of the filly’s victory in the Yorkshire Oaks.

Midday became the first horse to win back to back Nassau’s since the race was upgraded to Group One status in 1999 and only the third overall. Ruby Tiger, successful in 1991 and 1992, and Roussalka (1975& 1976) completing the select list.

Cecil, an avid gardener and lover of roses in particular, commented ‘This is a touching gesture from Blue Square in recognition of Midday’s tremendous double victory in The Blue Square Nassau Stakes. There is a rose bed directly outside of the filly's stable, the perfect place to plant the rose.’

Richard Jaques, PR and Sponsorship Manager for Blue Square, said ‘We are delighted to recognise Midday’s achievement and with Henrys known love of roses this seemed an obvious tribute. To find a rose named ‘Twice in a Blue Moon’, so fitting given how few horses have won the Nassau twice, adds extra sentimentality.’
