Prohibit Could Be Prix de l'Abbaye Bound 1 Prohibit 9/2 Prohibit could have earned himself at crack at the Group One Prix de l’Abbaye at Longchamp on October 3 following an authoritative victory in the Listed Scarbrough Stakes over five furlongs. The winner, a 9/2 hope, came with a great run down the middle of the course under Jamie Spencer and was three-quarters of a length too good for Rose Blossom at the finish. Successful trainer Robert Cowell said: “That was just awesome! I am elated! It looked like quite a tight race but I think that he might have won a bit easier - it sounds funny - because he came with a run and got stopped before running on again. “He’s a fantastic horse with brilliant sporting owners. He is a proper horse and we will probably go for something like the Prix de l’Abbaye with him now because he is a seriously talented. “Five furlongs is definitely his forte now, so we will be sticking to that, and hopefully we will have a better year when he’s a bit older next season.” “He is just improving hand over fist since we have kept him at five furlongs and a fast pace in France should suit him. “He needs faster ground. The good to soft today was fine for him. He has quite a neat action and probably wouldn’t want it any softer. “There is a Group Three race at Newbury coming up and the Rous Stakes at Newmarket, but that is another Listed race so he would have to carry a penalty. We might just be throwing stones, but I think it is probably worth a shot at the Abbaye.” Cowell went on to describe how he trains Prohibit: “After he runs, we just turn him out at home and then just put him on the horse walker a couple of days before his next outing. He wouldn’t ever do more than a hack canter at home and although he has raced a lot this season, he wouldn’t have been ridden out more than about 25 times at home this year. “It is an approach I learnt when I working in America with Neil Drysdale and I train all my sprinters this way. The idea is to get them to the racecourse 90 per cent fit and 10 per cent fresh.”
