Steinbeck 5-2 Favourite for Irish 2000 Guineas Glory

William Hill have installed the Aidan O’Brien trained Steinbeck as their 5-2 favourite for this Saturday’s Abu Dhabi Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh. The son of Footstepsinthestand is one of a nine horses entered from the all-powerful Ballydoyle yard.

The other eight horses entered by Aidan O’Brien are Air Chief Marshal, Dynasty, Encompassing, Fencing Master, Fighting Brave, Jan Vermeer, Purple Heart, and Viscount Nelson.

Canford Cliffs and Xtension, who finished third and fourth in the English 2000 Guineas at Newmarket, are among a list of five British entries for the first classic of the Irish flat season. The Peter Chapple-Hyam pair Morana and Zaahy and the Ralph Beckett trained Oasis Dancer complete the British challenge.

Jim Bolger has left three horses in the race – Carraiglawn, Free Judgement and Shintoh, while Tommy Stack’s sole entry is the Leopardstown Guineas Trial winner Noll Wallop.

The John Oxx trained Keredari and the Frank Ennis trained Sebastian Flyte complete the entries.

William Hill spokesman Tony Kenny said “Steinbeck has a very big reputation at home and he should be the number one challenger from Ballydoyle.” He continued “Canford Cliffs and Xtension look like the strongest of the British raiders and they should pose a huge threat to the home team.”
