9-2 Tony Mccoy Heads Sports Personality Betting Whilst Rooney Loses Favour 21/06/10

William Hill have today elevated Champion Jockey and Grand National winner Tony McCoy to 9-2 favourite from 8-1 following good support to win this years BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award.

The 15 time Champion Jockey has overtaken Wayne Rooney, who has been deserted by punters disappointed at England’s World Cup performances and undoubtedly a backlash to Rooney’s remarks to the English fans after the draw against Algeria.

Rooney is out to 6-1 with Hills after being a stand out 5-2 with the firm when the World Cup started, whilst Wimbledon hope Andy Murray is also 6-1 as the tournament kicks off this week.

No jockey has ever come close to being crowned the winner of the Sports Personality awards; however McCoy has never been anything short of sublime in racing circles.

Joe Goldring, Spokesman for William Hill, said: “Amongst racing fans McCoy has no equal and after his Grand National success in April many feel he would be a great ambassador to win this title for the BBC. If racing was as big as football, McCoy would surely have several of these trophies on his mantle by now.”
