Donald McCain-Trained Overturn Heads Galway Hurdle Betting – 42 Stand Ground 24/07/10

A total of 42 horses have stood their ground at the latest forfeit stage for next Thursday’s Guinness Galway Hurdle.

The Donald McCain-trained Overturn heads betting for the race – with William Hill rating him a 7-1 shot to become the first British trainer winner of the two-mile hurdle since Sagaman in 1991.

Dirar, from the Gordon Elliott yard, is the 8-1 second favourite for the race, whilst last year’s winner Bahrain Storm is rated a 10-1 chance to record back-to-back successes in the Guinness Galway Hurdle.

Others near the head of the betting include the Dermot Weld trained New Phase (10-1), the Jessica Harrington trained Gimli’s Rock (12-1), and the top-weight Luska Lad (12-1).

‘It’s been a long time since we’ve had a British winner of the Galway Hurdle,’ said William Hill spokesman Tony Kenny ‘but punters on both sides of the Irish sea seem to believe that Donald McCain’s Overturn could be the one to end Britain’s nineteen-year barren streak.’
