Pat Smullen and Paul Townend Head Races for Galway Top Jockey Titles 25/07/10

William Hill have installed the five-times Irish champion jockey Pat Smullen as their favourite to win the flat jockey title at Galway.

Dermot Weld’s stable jockey has won the title for the last three years and the bookmakers make him a 1-3 shot to make it four in a row at this year’s festival.

Fran Berry, who currently leads the Irish flat jockey’s championship, is the 4-1 second favourite to take the Rooney Auctioneers-sponsored crown, whilst Seamie Heffernan and Kevin Manning are rated 11-1 and 14-1 shots respectively.

‘Pat Smullen looks like he’ll have another decent book of rides for his boss Dermot Weld, and yet again – he’ll be the one to beat in the Galway flat jockey’s title,’ said Hills spokesman Tony Kenny

In the absence of the injured Ruby Walsh, Hills make Paul Townend their Even-money favourite to land the jump jockey title at Ballybrit.

Robbie McNamara is the 4-1 second favourite with the bookies - who also offer 7-1 about Barry Geraghty and 8-1 Tony McCoy.
