    Tanya's Blog - 3rd January 2011

Close but no cigar on Saturday, I was counting my money over the last in the big race when Mahogany Blaze jumped to the front, especially as I had had a reverse forecast with Carole’s Legacy. Still the big runs by both heartened me. Any Given Day once again found one too good but I know his tenacity will allow him to land a big race very, very soon.

I watched bits of the racing yesterday but nothing really tempted me to post any selections as I was honed into the World Darts, what a game by Gary Anderson, I do hope he maintains his form this evening to win it, he oozes such a great personality and his averages have been exceptional. The highlight last night was in the NFL and the Oakland Raiders. I didn’t think they’d win a game this season but they’ve proved me wrong, somehow winning eight!! If they sack their coach it will be a travesty.

On to today, a bank holiday, I’ve checked the exchanges and market movers and at the time of writing I would want to be on Eyre Square in Ayr’s 2.05 but I do appreciate Morgan Be is the course specialist, however top weight will anchor him. Eyre Square was thereabouts when falling four out behind West End Rocker at Newbury and should gain compensation. Close House is another well supported but I don’t like backing odds-on. I will by having a sentimental wager on Wild Cane Ridge but suggest you follow me on something like that at your peril. At Hereford the movers are Kells Belle at 12.50 and Rawaaj at 1.20.

I was saddened to learn of the death of Chris O’Keeffe, I count myself very lucky to serve alongside him on the Betting Shop Manager of the Year panel, he was one of life’s diamonds, a true gent. If you looked up fairness, diplomacy in the dictionary Chris O’Keeffe should have been the first thing mentioned. Everything he did outside his role of IBAS was with a sense of fun and camaraderie. In such a difficult role within the racing industry I don’t think he had an enemy, such was the respect for him. He was much loved by all around him and the whole sport is robbed of one of our best ambassadors. My condolences to all his friends and family my thoughts are with you.

    POINTERS

Pauline Robson has had six winners from her last 13 runners at Ayr

Morgan Be is an Ayr specialist having won five of his six races at the course

Wild Cane Ridge also loves Ayr wininng four of his six races at the course

Barney Curley has had four winners from his last 11 Wolverhampton runners

Rosie Jessop has a 50% strike rate at Southwell

Nicky Henderson has had four winners from his last ten runners

As always I advise you check out Signposts in the Racing Post, today on page 20 where it flags up that Bryan Smart has had three winners from his last five runners

It also points out that both Adam Carter and Robert Havlin are enjoying a 75% strike rate

I can’t emphasise enough how good the Racing Post app is for the iphone, many important stats and selections everyday including most of which I have listed above

If Lingfield goes ahead Robert Thornton has had seven winners from his last 22 rides at the course
