    Tanya's Blog - 19th January 2011

The heavy frost caught some of us out this morning, didn’t think I’d be scraping a glacier off the windscreen and fingers tightly crossed that Newbury thaws quickly. However, when there is all this complaining about poor prize money, I’m a bit upset that at Plumpton on Monday there was a £10,000 race and only four runners!!! I suppose I’m a bit miffed that Finan’s Rainbow will trade around 1-6 on or shorter against two rivals. We watched in awe and saw what he did to Hells Bay and look what that has done since.

On to tipping propositions and finally Cavers Glen (2.15 Newcastle) has reappeared. Here is the horse who was backed from 14-1 down and destroyed Fine Parchment at Aintree. Since then Fine Parchment has won impressively at Cheltenham and others in the Aintree race have come out and run well. I have to stay with him as he still carries a low weight. Morgan Be seems a huge price for one who’ll be right up there in the Eider Chase over the same course in a few weeks. Alistair Whillans has a backed horse today in Newcastle’s 2.50 Kings Guard, I suggest that he will open near on 9-4 favourite rather than the 4-1 in the Racing Post, he didn’t run too bad when fourth at Hexham back in November last year. The other backed horse at Newcastle is Degas Art which is now trading at 10-11

Nicky Henderson has so many short priced good things at Newbury today he can only had to his hot run at present and boost that strike rate. A watching brief advised.

    POINTERS

Nicky Henderson has had nine winners, four seconds, and a third from his last 20 runners and he has had four winners from his last six chase runners

Jeremy Noseda has had three winners and a second from his last four runners

David Pipe has had four winners from his last 11 runners

Mark Johnston is currently enjoying a 50% strike rate with five winners from his last ten runners

Matthew Cosham has had four winners and two seconds from his last eleven rides
