Captain's Blog - 23rd August 2011 Two sporting observations for you today. Firstly although England are clearly a very good cricket team, to lavish them with praise for beating India 4-0 is a bit like saying Frankel is the greatest miler in the world after what he did in the Sussex Stakes. India are an ageing team who came into this series on the back of no meaningful preparation with a bunch of players who are by and large over the top and jaded having played so much cricket. They also seemed not to care about the outcome of this series, indeed yesterday their captain MS Dhoni did not even bother to warm up before yesterdays play. Add to that the fact that their best bowler Zaheer Khan missed the majority of the series with an injury and you have a team that was far removed from being number one in the world before the series started. In essence England did not beat the best side in the world they beat Bangladesh in disguise and thus we should not get carried away with their performance. A bit like not getting carried away with an easy lead victory in a Group 1 where your main rival suffers a career ending injury. Secondly I watched Man Utd play and thrash Tottenham last night and was hugely impressed with them. They were good to watch and their blend of exuberant youth and wily experience saw them come away as comfortable 3-0 victors. I must temper my enthusiasm because Spurs had couple of players missing but this Man Utd team look the real deal this season and the Premier League looks to be theirs for the taking once again. They will face stern opposition from Man City but I am not sure that their neighbours will be as consistent or as hungry as the boys in red. They are a shade bigger than 6/4 which is fair enough albeit if you will have to wait an awful long time to get paid. I will be in the Studio today for all the action from Warwick. I am due into the Studio at about 3.00pm to go through our usual warm up routine. I hope you will be able to join us for the action which will probably unfold against the stands rail. I like to play the nearest the stands rail game at this track and anticipate that the majority of winners will be those that get to the stands rail in the home straight. Time will tell no doubt. Have a good day.
