Tanya's Blog - 28th October 2011 Checking the exchanges at the time of writing the backed horses or at least those much shorter than in various betting synopsises are in Newmarket’s 1.50 Fa’iz, which is no surprise with Godolphin’s strike rate in the race. However, I’d be concerned with the amount of times the horse has had to try and break its maiden already. Still at Newmarket in the 4.10 May Be Some Time, he caught the eye at Salisbury last time with some cut in the ground, yet he has only won once from 13 starts. Over jumps at Wetherby, Countrywide Flame at 3.55, if Andrew Harris is one of the syndicate owners well then, the horse being backed doesn’t account for much as Andrew always stands by his greyhounds and backs them most time he runs, so he is just doing the same with his horse. The race seems a pretty hot event and one for the notebooks for all those who compete, not exactly a betting medium today. The backed horse which has caught the eye the most is Drumlang in Uttoxeter’s 3.10, double-figure price in the Racing Post yet currently trading around 4-1 favourite. First run for Ian Williams. He has shown absolutely nothing to inspire me however I will now be watching the contest with interest. While I acclimatise to the National Hunt season I will just have one wager today, dear old MISTER MCGOLDRICK, at the youthful age of 14, he is back at his favourite course in a race he has won twice already. After Marked Man won aged 15 at Towcester it proved age is no barrier. He goes in Wetherby’s 3.20 Luke Rowe once again did the blog proud, it’s 11 winners now from 49 career rides for the young apprentice. At present he is showing a huge level stake profit on all his mounts and yesterday he rode Rio Royale. In my mind he is still an undiscovered talent and once a bigger stable latches on to his ability, I’m sure he’ll thrust into the limelight. News is coming through that Notus De La Tour makes his chasing debut in Carlisle’s 1.40 on Sunday, I can’t wait, he was brilliant last season, especially with his third in the Totesport Trophy at Newbury leading over the last. Showing just an ounce of that ability in his debut over the bigger obstacles would see him good.
POINTERS Saeed Bin Suroor has won with all three of his runners in Newmarket’s 1.50 Richard Hannon has a 50% strike rate in Newmarket’s 3.00 Mister McGoldrick has won eight times from just 13 runs at Wetherby Charlie Longsdon has had seven winners from his last 21 runners Felix de Giles has ridden six winners from his last 15 rides at Wetherby Sue Smith has won Wetherby’s 3.20 four times from her last seven runners
