Angus McNae

Captain's Blog - 25th November 2011

There is great excitement at McNae towers this morning as the Superleague fixtures have just been published and our team, St Helens, will be visiting the London Broncos for the first game of the season. Phone calls have already been made to fellow supporters and our best mates are already booking a hotel close to us so that they can visit for the weekend. We have also found out that the Saints will be playing Catalans Dragons in Perpignan in July and already there is eager talk of a summer holiday in that part of France. If that were not enough excitement for one day we are also about to order our Saints shirts for it would be sacrilege to turn up at the Twickenham Stoop on the 4th of February minus a team shirt. I am not sure the day can get any better really, but in truth it doesn't have to.

If it is going to get better I am going to have to really enjoy a 30 mile round trip to pick up a dining room table recently bought on ebay or perhaps I will gain similar pleasure from going to our favourite coffee shop this morning for a spot of breakfast. I could back a 20/1 winner this afternoon, but come on, that is hardly likely is it? And even if it was it would not be better than the thought of our trip to see the Saints in February.

Day 2 of the Hennessey Festival kicks into gear today and it is all live on this afternoon. The card today is an excellent one and the second race will garner much interest as Bobs Worth takes makes his chasing debut and is taken on by Cue Card. I am a big fan of Bobs Worth and think he will take all the beating, he has always looked to be a chaser in the making and I was particularly impressed with him at the Cheltenham Festival. Conversly, I am not a fan of Cue Card who has something to prove in terms of his jumping after falling last time out and I am not convinced by his response to pressure in races. In short I think he is a bridle horse who finds little and hangs left when he is asked to stretch through the pain barrier. Bobs Worth to win for me folks, but I have been wrong plenty of times before!

My selection today is Ardlui in the first race. He was a useful flat performer and he may be a better price than he should be because of the presence of a Paul Nicholls runner. Ardlui makes his debut today, but if he jumps ok I have no doubt he will go very close.

All the best.

Today's Selection

1.00 Newbury - Ardlui
