Captain's Blog - 3rd January 2012 A very happy New Year to you all. 2012 is up and running now and with a bit of luck it will be a prosperous and interesting year. We did not go overboard about our New Year at McNae towers. Yes we had a bottle of fizz around midnight and toasted our neighbours out on the street whilst watching some fireworks, but that was about it and we felt well enough on New Years day to go for a run. It must be the first time in my 45 years that I have actually done some exercise on New Years Day. Nonetheless it was a good way of blowing away the cobwebs. The year is going to start with a bang for us with two Birthdays in the family and my daughter is starting at her Nursery in a week which is more stressful than it may seem. The task of taking her and leaving her there on her first day falls on my shoulders and I have to say I am not really looking forward to it. I am sure that after a while she will love it but it is hard to convince myself of the fact at the moment. As daft as it may seem I need to be prepared mentally for it and that process will begin tomorow when she will have the first of her inset days. Fingers crossed that will go well because if it does the whole thing will be a lot easier. Our final selection in 2011 was a non runner which was no bad thing I guess. We at least went out not losing. I am hoping to improve my tipping record this year. To do so I need to strike at around 25%. My records show that the blog selections hit at about 22% last year and I would really like to improve on that. This does not mean I will just be looking for so called short priced good things. I am price sensitive to a certain extent and will try not to throw obvious ones your way that frankly you could have tipped yourself. Racing at Ayr today has been abandoned on health and safety grounds because there was no working PA system at the track. The Race Tech truck supplying sound and vision had to be moved after a tree became unsafe in the high winds. Without a working PA racing could not go ahead. My selection today comes from Southwell in the form of Shawkantango who runs at 3.00. He is all Southwell specialist with all of his wins coming at the track. He looked as if he was coming back to form last time when third at Wolverhampton and back on his favoured fibresand he is a decent each way wager at 9/2. I am typing this whilst sat in a garage waiting fot the car to be serviced and one of the mechanics is coming my way with a long and stern face. It will no doubt be news that means they want more money! All the best.
Today's Selection 3.00 Southwell – Shawkantango (each way 9/2 Paddy Power)
