Captain's Blog - Friday 20th April 2012

Main Sequence went in for us yesterday at 2/1 in the last at Newmarket which was a much needed winner. With a bit of luck we can kick on now and have a decent weekend, there is certainly going to be some tremendous action to have a go at. Today is at Ayr for day 1 of the Scottish Grand National meeting and we will also be live at Newbury for the start of the Greenham Meeting. It promises to be a tremendous day and I will be in the booth for the duration.

My day has already begun in the best possible fashion as I am typing this whilst watching the Anzac test between Australia and New Zealand. This is International Rugby League at its best. As you will know if you are a regular reader of this blog I believe Rugby League is the best game in the world and it does not come in a better form than the Aussies v New Zealand. Once the game is over I will have to bolt out of the house to get to work on time, but the mad rush on this occasion will be worth it.

As far as today is concerned I like Dildar in the 2.20 at Ayr. He looks very useful with Ruby on his back. And well done Ruby for making it back so soon after his terrible looking fall at Aintree last week.

I have been having a look at day one of the Craven Meeting and have put together some speed figures to try and put some perspective on the performances we saw. Here they are.

Race 1 - Cogito 71
Race 2 - Baileys Jubilee 92 (a very good fig for a two year old at this time of year)
Race 3 - Valbchek 97
Race 4 - Telwaar 85
Race 5 - Esentepe 93
Race 6 - Stipulate 70 ( A steady pace made for a poor figure making this a throw out race in terms of form)
Race 7 - Model Pupil 92
Race 8 - Es Que Love 95

It was disappointing that there were no triple digit figures, nonetheless there were performances of note on the clock from Valbchek who has show massive improvement since his maiden win and Es Que Love who is clearly a useful sprinter. The Esentepe figure is good and a repeat of it will see her running well in the Guineas, but she will need to be much better to win.

I will look at the day two of the Craven Meeting tomorrow.

Have a good day.
