Captain's Blog - Wednesday 29th August I have had a look at the four day York Meeting in terms of speed figures. As you might expect Frankel stood head and shoulders above the rest with a figure of 130. Next best came from Gordon Lord Byron, who posted 118 on his favoured rain-softened ground. Third best is an interesting one in the shape of Dubai Prince, who recorded a figure of 111 and when I calculated this figure a thought came to me. Surely Dubai Prince is the type for the Dubai World Cup. I have no doubt that he would be good enough for the race, he stays 10 furlongs and is by Shamardal, whose progeny has a good record on artifical surfaces. He has run on the Meydan Tapeta surface once and ran poorly, but that run came after a long lay-off and he showed afterwards that he was in no sort of form at the time. He has now won two of his last three starts and is standing more racing than he used to. I know the Dubai World Cup is a big ask, but he could be the right type of horse for this race and if I could find a fancy price about him winning the richest race in the world I would not mind having a tenner on. I am keen on Oddysey in the 4.30 at Carlisle today. He won in good style at Haydock last time out and even though he has gone up 8lb he is still well in. He seems to be steadily improving and there are plenty of doubts about the opposition today. He will not be much of a price, but a winner is a winner, I guess. Right I am going to bid you farewell now and enjoy some down time on a day off. I hope you all have a good day. Today's Selection 4.30 Carlisle - Oddysey
