Ayr Racecourse Opens Doors to York Residents
01/10/08

AYR Racecourse is bracing itself for a mini invasion next week after bosses offered York residents free entry to the Rockingham Stakes Raceday on Friday week (10th October).

The Rockingham, is normally staged at the English track but is coming north for one year only due to drainage work being carried out at York Racecourse.

But Ayr chiefs are keen to create a home from home atmosphere and want as many Yorkites as possible to take advantage of the free admission offer.

Members of York Racecourse staff are attending and its hoped there will be many more taking advantage of the offer.

Ayr Racecourse General Manager William Gorol said : “We are honoured to be staging the Rockingham fixture this year and we are keen that as many York residents as possible have the chance to see the race and that is why we have offered them free entry.

“We hope that many will take up our offer and we are delighted that Chief Executive William Derby and members of the York staff are going to be at Ayr for the Rockingham.

“There is an affinity between Ayr and York racecourses and we hope to strengthen ties between the two courses by staging a very successful Rockingham.”

Next Friday’s meeting is sponsored by the Bank Of Scotland and features seven races with total prizemoney of more than £70,000. The first race is at 2.20 pm with the Bank of Scotland Corporate Rockingham Stakes, worth £30,000, due off at 3.55 pm.

York residents can claim their free admission by calling 0870-8505666 and quoting their address including post code. The offer runs until 5.00 pm on Thursday October 9.
