Melbourne Cup: Is Win Number 13 Cumming for Bart ?

81 year old Bart Cummings is rated a 9-4 chance by William Hill to win his thirteenth Melbourne Cup next week. The man known as the ‘Cups King’ has entered three horses in this year’s race – last month’s Caulfield Cup first and second, Viewed and Roman Emperor, and Allez Wonder, who finished 8th in the same race.

Cummings’ Viewed is the 9-2 joint favourite alongside the South Australian stayer Alcopop. The Jake Stephens trained hopeful wasn’t even in the betting for the race when bookmakers opened betting on the Melbourne Cup, but strong performances over the last few months have catapulted him to the head of the betting for the race that stops a nation.

The European raiders have been largely overlooked by the natives and William Hill is offering odds of 12-1 for a European winner. The three European raiders are Ian Williams’ Munsef, Godolphin’s Crime Scene, and Luca Cumani’s Basaltico.

Aidan O’Brien and Sir Michael Stoute will also be watching the Melbourne Cup with keen interest – with their former inmates Changingofthegueard and Waringah in the line up.
