Nicholls Hoping to Run Three in Paddy Power Paul Nicholls said today that the plan is to run Poquelin and Chapoturgeon, 6-1 joint-favourites with the sponsors, as well as Tatenen, a 10-1 chance with the universe’s friendliest bookmaker, in Saturday’s BetVictor Gold Cup at the Paddy Power Meeting at Cheltenham depending on what the weather does between now and the weekend. Poquelin won the other day at Cheltenham and I hadn’t thought about the Paddy Power before that and it was only the way that he won then. Tatenen will only run if it’s soft and Chapoturgeon was always going to go for the Paddy Power first time out. Again it will depend on the weather, but Ruby Walsh will ride Poquelin. Paddy has come up with one of his extraordinary money back specials and punters will get their cash back if a Nicholls-trained horse wins the Paddy Power Gold Cup. PADDY POWER GOLD CUP Meanwhile Denman, Paddy’s 6-1 second favourite for the Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury on November 28 and 9-2 second favourite for the Cheltenham Gold Cup in March, had a racecourse gallop at Exeter. HENNESSY GOLD CUP CHELTENHAM GOLD CUP Meanwhile Paddy priced up Sunday’s Greatwood Hurdle and originally could not separate Harry Tricker, Medermit and Silverhand at the top of the market, but after heavy sustained support Harry Tricker is now 5f (from 8cf). James De Vassy is a 10-1 chance (from 12). GREATWOOD HURDLE The jovial bookie has also chalked up the Dobbins & Madigans Morgiana Hurdle at Punchestown on Sunday. The Willie Mullins-trained Hurricane Fly is a 4-5 favourite with Solwhit next best at 5-2. MORGIANA HURDLE |
