Hanagan Picks Up One-Day Ban at Goodwood

Paul Hanagan rode a winner at Goodwood on Saturday, a glorious October day, taking his lead over rival Richard Hughes to nine.

One could have concerns about just how much effort both men are putting in, clocking up stellar miles but the hunger is clearly in both men and just maybe, things will end on a tie. A friendship has reportedly developed between the two and if you can find odds on a tie, that might be a shrewd move.
Suspensions will have a say and Hanagan was given a one-day ban (October 25) for hitting Celtic Sixpence in the wrong place en-route to a comfortable victory Median Auction Maiden Stakes but Hughes is suspended for seven days after next Saturday.
"I'm normally here for the Glorious meeting but it's lovely to be here on a day like this," said Hanagan. "The boss (Richard Fahey) had a few runners, so I think I would have been here under normal circumstances anyway. We have been up and down the country like maniacs lately and Saturday was a long day for both of us, as Richard was at Ascot and I was at York, then we were both riding in the last race at Wolverhampton. I feel OK, I just feel sorry for my wife and kids. It's tougher on Richard than me, as I very rarely have to waste. People don't really appreciate what he has to go through every day and you have got to have a lot of respect for him.”
Hanagan rides at Windsor on Monday and he has a fair chance aboard the 3-y-o Picansort in the sprint handicap at 3.35. He may be thwarted though by the 5-y-o mare IVORY SILK who is on a hugely tempting mark now. Toby Atkinson takes off 5 lb and the mare is 2-stone better than her mark based on the pick of her form.
