Charlton Targets bet365 Charlie Hall Chase with Knockara Beau 20/10/10 Knockara Beau proved himself as a high-class novice chaser last term and George Charlton’s charge is primed for a return to action at Wetherby in the Grade Two £100,000 bet365 Charlie Hall Chase (3.25pm) over three miles, one furlong on Saturday, October 30. Knockara Beau also displayed top notch form when four lengths second to Burton Port in the Grade Two Reynoldstown Novices’ Chase at Ascot, and when a staying-on fourth to Weapons Amnesty in the Grade One RSA Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in March. Charlton, who trains at Mickley Grange Farm in Northumberland, believes his charge has made the necessary progress through the summer to take on seasoned chasers in Wetherby’s lucrative autumn highlight He revealed today: “The plan is to take him to Wetherby for the bet365 Charlie Hall Chase. He’s very well, he had a very good summer, he strengthened up and we are really pleased with him. “A few of my horses are just not yet running up to the mark that I think they should be, so that’s a bit of a worry. I think they’re just a little bit behind where I want them to be but Knockara Beau is going very well. “He was just a little bit inexperienced and hit the odd fence last season but he was running on at the finish in those top races. If he had had a luckier round in some of them, he would have been nearer than he was and he wasn’t far away. “He goes well on soft ground but I wouldn’t say he needs it - he stays and is always running on over these longer trips so he has plenty of stamina. He’s a big horse and he wouldn’t want firm in the ground. I’m hoping they have some rain down at Wetherby before the end of the month. “I am sure he has improved through the summer - now we just need a bit of luck in running.” Ollie Magern came home third last season and the evergreen 12-year-old is on course for an historic fifth appearance in the race. He was narrowly denied when going down by a length to State Of Play in 2008 but had previously posted a pair of superb victories in Wetherby’s autumn showpiece, making all of the running to triumph in both 2007 and 2005. His trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies revealed today: “Ollie Magern is definitely going there - he has got to as he has done so well in the race and at Wetherby. “He is in great form and he loves Wetherby - I don’t know why. If I knew that, I would be a rich man!” The Grade Two bet365 Charlie Hall Chase (2.50pm) is the highlight of a fantastic day’s racing at Wetherby on the second day of the two-day bet365 Charlie Hall Meeting, Saturday, October 30. A seven-race card also features the £32,500 Grade Two John Smith’s Hurdle (2.50pm) over three miles and a furlong and the £30,000 Listed bet365 Mares’ Hurdle (2.15pm) over an extended two miles A six-race card on day one of the bet365 Charlie Hall Meeting, Friday, October 29, includes the extended two and a half-mile £20,000 Listed bet365 Handicap Chase (3.20pm) and the £15,000 Listed Weatherbys Bank Wensleydale Juvenile Hurdle (3.55pm), over an extended two miles.
