Carberry (43), who last won the title back in 2003, is currently three winners clear of his nearest rival Andrew McNamara (40) in the title race.

Paul Townend (23), who is likely to get some of Ruby’s plum rides, is rated the 7-4 second favourite to land his first ever title.

Other title contenders include Davy Russell (22), Barry Geraghty (34) and Andrew Lynch (28).

‘Ruby’s unfortunate incident at Down Royal has blown the Irish jump jockey’s crown wide open,’ said William Hill spokesman Tony Kenny ‘Paul Carberry currently heads the standings and the betting, although you certainly couldn’t rule out the likes of Davy Russell, Paul Townend and Andrew McNamara landing their first jockey’s title.’

2010/11 Irish National Hunt Jockey’s Championship (William Hill bet) 4-5 P Carberry, 7-4 P Townend, 7-2 D Russell, 7-1 A McNamara, 12-1 B Geraghty, 14-1 R Walsh, 33-1 A Lynch – win only (Others on request)
