Snow Fairy Off to Hong Kong & Black Apalachi Latest

Snow Fairy is to miss the Japan Cup and is likely to go for either the Hong Kong Vase or Cup instead.

The dual Oaks winning filly proved herself as something special when adding the Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Cup at Kyoto to her career haul recently and trainer Ed Dunlop explained the decision;
"She is going to go to Hong Kong. I discussed things with the owner and as she had lost a bit of weight after being transferred from Kyoto to Tokyo - nothing dramatic or anything - we felt we would have a bit more time. She will probably ship for Hong Kong next week and has two options over there, the Vase or the Cup. We will make a decision as to which nearer the time."
Black Apalachi will return to action in early 2011 with John Smith's Grand National again the main target. The 2010 race saw the Irish-trained horse beat all but Don’t Push It after racing prominently and he is a good weight carrier.
"He just went back into training last week after spending the summer with us," reported the owner Gerard Burke.
"He looks stronger than he did last year and even though he is nearly 12, he acts like a two-year-old. We did a bit of roadwork with him but he obviously won't be back for a while. I would say we will follow a similar plan to last season, with one or two hurdle races early next year followed by the Bobbyjo at Fairyhouse. Then hopefully we can come back for another try at Aintree."
Friday’s cards include Ascot and Mathui can take the 2.45 at the Berkshire course on his first run for the Pipe yard. The selection is wearing a tongue-tie for the first time and looks handily weighted. Enlightenment took a heavy fall last time and could be best watched so Five Dream rates the danger.
