    Captain's Blog - 7th December 2010

There will be a few sore heads around following the HWPA awards yesterday. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and feel somewhat lucky to have woken up this morning minus hangover. Given that I managed to mix wine and beer that in itself is something of a miracle, but I am relieved to be feeling vaguely human this morning. The big winners yesterday were Brough Scott and Matt Chapman. Scott won the journalist of the year award and Chapman took Nick Luck’s title as Broadcaster of the year. Nick was looking to win the title for the fourth year in a row, it was not to be though, as the voters were seduced by Chapman and his unique brand of broadcasting. Rest assured though, the trophy is only lent, I am sure that it will be back on the Luck mantle piece where it has become accustomed to living, next year.

I have not heard yet if there was any argy bargy in the pub after the awards ceremony, there is usually a rumble at some point between journalists that have held a grudge for years. It is handbag stuff really but always amusing to witness. There is bound to be some interesting fallout and I will no doubt hear about it in due course and I will dutifully report back here on the blog unless it means I am also going to get a handbag around the head.

I was anxious that our selection here on the blog ran well yesterday and I guess finishing second at 6/1 rewarding each way support was nearly what the doctor ordered. Its a Mans World was beaten half a length at a Southwell having had every chance through the race. That result keeps us in profit this month and I will be looking to ram home the advantage over the next few days. If I am going to do so I will need to have my all weather hat on because turf racing is going to be thin on the ground over the next few days. Having said that, Simon Claisse is hopeful that Cheltenham will be good to race on Friday and Saturday.

As for today I will be taking it easy and will be settling down to watch some Ashes highlights shortly. Whatever you are doing today I hope you have a peaceful day.
