Leading Two Year Old Colts To Look Out For As The Flat Season Draws To A Close 14/09/11 With plenty of the Flat season to come including the major Group One juvenile races it is difficult to say with much certainty which of the two year old Colts seen so far will be in Classic and Group One contention next years as three year olds. Nonetheless, there has been several who have caught the eye already with the best of them probably being the Richard Hannon trained Harbour Watch. He is the current antepost favourite for the 2,000 Guineas and along with the Aidan O'Brien trained Power and Dabirsim from French trainer, Christophe Ferland, they set the standard so far for Juveniles in 2011 and are the ones to look out for as the flat season draws to a close. Harbour Watch is unbeaten after three starts over six furlongs, this son of Acclamation has made steady progress all season winning each of his races as he liked. His best performance came last time when he was stepped up from Listed to Group Two and easily won the Diadem Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. Hannon would like to keep him to six furlongs for his final race of the season which looks certain to be the Group One Middle Park Stakes on Champions Day at Newmarket in October. Should he win that then he will be a very obvious contender for the 2000 Guineas and possibly other Group One races over a mile. He wears the same silks as Canford Cliffs did and could well be set to follow in his former stablemate's footsteps. The win by three lengths over dual Group winner Family One and by four lengths over the previously unbeaten Vladimir is arguably the most impressive performance by any two year old anywhere in Europe this season, particularly as the field contained the very highly thought of Frederick Engels and the Mick Channon trained Gatepost. Dabirsim will not be coming to the UK to race until at least the spring as Ferland has dismissed a possible run in the Middle Park Stakes in favour of the Group One Prix Jean Luc Lagarde (Grand Criterium) at Longchamp on ‘Arc’ day and should he win that he will almost certainly head to the Breeders Cup to contest the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf event at Churchill Downs in November. |
