BGC Long Walk Hurdle Attracts Star Studded Cast
03/12/09

Ascot stages the £100,000 Grade One BGC Long Walk Hurdle on Saturday, December 19. Run over three miles and a furlong, it boasts an illustrious roll of honour with many of the great staying hurdlers having prevailed down the years.

Lough Derg
Two of the last three winners are entered once again, the Ascot specialist Lough Derg, successful in 2007, and Mighty Man, the 2006 scorer.

The Paul Nicholls-trained Big Buck’s was the leading staying hurdler last season, following his victory in the Ladbrokes World Hurdle at Cheltenham and could not have been more impressive on his seasonal reappearance at Newbury on November 28 while the young pretender to the staying hurdlers’ crown, Diamond Harry, a facile winner under top-weight in a Listed handicap at Haydock Park last month, has been entered by Nick Williams.

Former Champion Hurdle winner Katchit could make the step up in distance to the staying division while Cheltenham Festival handicap scorers Kayf Aramis and Ninetieth Minute may bid to make the step up to Grade One class.

Whiteoak

Sentry Duty was successful at this meeting last year when taking The Ladbroke and could also take a leap up in both class and distance.

The mare Whiteoak, trained by Donald McCain, is another former Cheltenham Festival scorer and looked back to something like her best when successful at Kempton on November 23.
