    Angus McNae

    Captain's Blog - 10th December 2010

All Moving parts was our each way selection yesterday and with the necessary hold up tactics employed he ran his best race for a while to finish second at the advised price of 10/1. He was only beaten a neck and I am adamant that he would have won if the race had been run at a sounder pace. He is the third of our selections to finish second this week which is a little frustrating, but at least we are in profit for the week which I guess is what it is all about.

Jumps fans are in for a treat today as racing on the turf returns and it comes from Cheltenham where plenty of hard work has gone into making sure racing can go ahead. The card is an excellent one and I will be in the booth this afternoon helping out our on course team. I will have to tune my radar to the jumps once again today because in truth I have been working hard at the all weather action of late and punting over the jumps is a completely different kettle of fish. Having said that, there is a meeting on the fibresand at Southwell today if I find the jumps all too baffling.

The card at Cheltenham is certainly competitive and finding winners will be tough. There is a very strong word for Al Ferof who runs in the last. He looks to be an exciting recruit to the hurdling game having finished second to Cue Card in the champion bumper. He was second that day despite pulling hard in the race and he will have to be keen to settle to fulfill his potential, but if he does he looks like something of a short priced good thing in the last. The problem is the price which will be very restrictive. Looking at the rest of the card I think it would be wise to tread carefully. One trap we should not fall into though is to presume that National Hunt horses may need the run after being off the track for a while due to the weather. In my experience most horses were fit going into the bad spell and will still be fit, if anything they will be in better fettle, freshened up after a break.

Joy of joys the bin men have rocked up for the first time in a fortnight. I hope they have a tough day emptying all the overflowing bins. I should not get wound up by everything the council gets up to but surely getting the bins emptied is fundamental to keeping the borough neat and tidy. If you ring them up though they do not care a jot and treat you rather like receptionists at a doctor’s do! Enough already I need to move on and get the now empty bin back where it belongs rather than waiting longingly for attention at the front of the house.

Time to get to work folks. Enjoy Cheltenham
