Workforce and Midday Breeders' Cup Ground Concerns
04/11/10

There would seem to be a difference of opinion as to how the turf at Churchill Downs is riding prior to this weekend Breeders Cup Championship meeting.

Whilst the official line is that the going is firm, giving rise for concern for Workforce, after the first race on Wednesdays the jockeys are claiming it is riding softer. In fact it has been likened to European ground and predicted to be good by Friday.

So I think we can expect good ground for the weekend when all eyes will be on British challengers Workforce and Midday, whilst the whole world will be watching to see if Zenyetta can add to her tally and win her second Breeders Cup Classic to make it an unprecedented 20 wins in 20 races.

It would seem the punters have every confidence that Zenyetta can complete the feat, as the one time 4/1 joint favourite has been backed into 2/1 and is predicted by bookies, giving the weight of money coming for her, that she will shorten further before the weekend.

Goldikova has been given a wide draw in the Breeders Cup Mile and subsequently eased in the market. She is drawn 10 of 11, but remember she managed to overcome a wide draw last year. Around 5/4 is available for Goldikova. Paco Boy who will now NOT be ridden by Richard Hughes, as he stays home and attempts to catch Paul Hanagan in the Jockeys Championship, is around a 6/1 chance.

Workforce remains favourite for the Breeders Cup Turf, despite talk of ground being too firm, then soft. The layers are taking no chances and make him 11/8f. Behkbad, who finished fourth behind Workforce in the Arc, found trouble that day and is as short as 15/8 to find a clear passage and overcome his rival this time.
