Tanya's Blog - 23rd November 2010 Brackloon High is one of my favourite horses in training, a huge, strong, imposing individual he first impressed me at Plumpton on the 3rd January when looking to have just strolled round in a bumper. Noel Chance has been very careful with his placing of the horse. Because of his size he may not be as agile as some of his rivals but if he is on his stride then he takes one to his rivals too. He runs in Lingfield’s 2:20. Noel Chance could have a double after Slew Charm returned to the fray at Sandown on 6 November with such promise. A horse with so much potential the offices (people within own shares in him) will be rocking if he can put in another bold effort. Yesterday I enjoyed a fabulous lunchtime bash to celebrate the 2010 Betting Shop Manager of the Year at London’s Carlton Tower. Because of the hotel’s location I took the opportunity to pay my first ever visit to Harrods, me and the better half wandered the store’s lavish floors, shame the time was limited there is so much to marvel at, not least of all the Peter Pan-themed shopfronts. Didn’t have time to go in Harvey Nichols for which the better half was grateful. John Parrott was guest of honour at the awards which received the massive attendance it deserved. It is hard to convey how much the recognition is appreciated by the Betting Shop Managers and their staff. They work long, long hours and often encounter unpleasant scenarios and incidents but still show the utmost loyalty to their customers and employers. They are the face for racing and it was great to see within the eight finalists so much passion for a sport that is desperately fighting its corner for turnover. Michael Demetriou is this year’s worthy winner and ambassador for his colleagues, let’s hope his knowledge and experience of the industry will be used productively.
