    Captain's Blog - 1st January 2011

Happy New year to you all. I hope you have a profitable and peaceful 2011 starting right here right now. I have never been one for New years resolutions and did not decide to change much in my life last night. Of course I could do with backing more winners and being fitter but there is no point in me resolving to be more circumspect in my punting or to spend more time at the gym because it matters not a jot what I say because words are cheap, getting the job done is a lot tougher, but I will give both of those particular projects a good go.

Last night we saw the New year in with our neighbours. We spent most of the evening with them and then went out onto our street at midnight to listen to the church bells and toast the New Year, many people came out into the street and did the same, indeed I managed to speak to people that I only ever acknowledge with a nod most days of the year. It was a sociable way to see the New Year in and a most enjoyable night. I think we crawled into bed at about 1.30am having sat and watched a bit of the obligatory New Years eve Jools Holland show. All of this means that I am a bit bleary eyed today, but fortunately I stayed off the booze last night so do not feel too bad. I will feel better if Leeds beat Middlesborough at 12.30 today and if we can find a winner here on the blog so much the better.

Cheltenham stage an excellent card today and of course it will be live on this afternoon. Avid readers of the blog will know that my Cheltenham strategy is simple, stick to horses with form at the course and that will be the case with my selection today. Medermit has taken well to chasing bar a bizarre refusal at Huntingdon a couple of starts ago. He was just short of top class as a hurdler last year and we know he likes Cheltenham. Indeed his best form is at this track and he looks like the one to be one on in the Dipper Novices chase. He is available as I type at 11/2 which is decent each way value. I have had a good look at the card and honestly believe this horse should be around the 4/1 mark.

We will be heading to a New Years Day party today. Some friends are having a few folk round for a drink or two and a bite to eat so we shall pop in later and then tonight we will be settling down to the World Darts tournament. It is the quarter finals tonight and should make for some superb entertainment. After that I will be crashing out and catching up on some sleep after last nights celebrations. In truth I could crash out now, but now I am up and about and functioning I will kick on.

I wish you all a fabulous New Year and a profitable one with me here on the blog. Come on Medermit, you are better than this lot!
