Captain's Blog - 3rd May 2011 I had a look at the two days of the Guineas meeting and have put together some speed figures. The task was made fairly tough because of the wind and the water that was applied to the track on Saturday night. Nonetheless I am pleased with the results and here they are. 2000 Guineas Day Clearly the visual impression created by Frankel is backed up by his speed figure. It has been reported this morning that he will swerve the Derby and he will continue to be hard to beat as long as this massive effort does not leave mental or physical scars. 1000 Guineas Day Blue Bunting won the 1000 Guineas posting a very good figure for a filly at this time of year. Even if she will be better suited by the Oaks trip she is clearly not devoid of speed. It is possible that she will be a short priced favourite for the Oaks come the day and the 3/1 available with a number of firms is very fair. I'm a Dreamer also posted a triple digit figure and is Royal Ascot bound. She has a high cruising speed and may be capable of better which will be needed if success at the Royal Meeting is to be achieved. Commissar posted a good figure for a two year old and is in the top three that we have seen this year. He is joined by Magic City and Miss Work of Art. All three will be players at the Royal Meeting. I hope you find these numbers of some use and if not hopefully you will at least find them interesting. Thank God the Bank Holidays are over for a while now and we can get back to normal now. I am back in the Studio tomorrow and on Thursday for my favourite meeting of the year from my favourite track. Yes the May meeting at Chester is upon us and you can see it all live on . I am looking forward to it. Come the end of the week I will be presenting our coverage of the Kentucky Derby with Billy Downes and James Willoughby as my guests. It looks as if it is going to be a superb race this year and well worth you having a late night with us on your favourite Racing channel. No joy with our selection yesterday. Tipping a hold up horse on the tight inner track at Kempton over 10 furlongs when there is no pace in the race is schoolboy stuff and I apologise. All the best
