Captain's Blog - 25th May 2011

Easy Terms was a 15/2 winner for us here on the blog yesterday. This was a much needed winner and hopefully will kick start our week. Whilst that was the good news emanating from McNae towers yesterday the bad news is that Master of Hounds is heading to the Belmont rather than the Epsom Derby. You will recall that I fancy this horse for the Derby given his excellent run in the Kentucky Derby and have backed him at fancy dan prices. It looks as if I have done my money though, but that is the inherent danger with antepost punting and the reason that big prices can be secured so I am not too sour about it. Despite this antepost setback I am going to go in again today and the race is the Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot.

A few weeks ago I was working with Dave Nevison covering an evening meeting at Kempton. During the show we witnessed a smooth success for Point North. He posted a decent speed figure in beating Tartan trip comfortably and as he did so I could not help to thinking that he was another Forgotten Voice. That horse also trained by Jeremy Noseda and also owned by Sir Robert Ogden won on the polytrack at Kempton before going on to Hunt Cup glory. Both horses are sons of Danehill Dancer and Point North looks to have bags of potential. The fact that he has won on Polytrack has also convince me that he will go well at Royal Ascot. Horses that have polytrack form seem to go particularly well on the straight course at Ascot and Forgotten Voice was one example of many. Point North could be the new Forgotten Voice, the similarity in preparation and pedigree make me think that this horse is worth an antepost wager. He is 14/1 with Victor Chandler and that will do for me. It is possible that he could run this weekend and if he wins that will look like a decent price.

I am at home today and will then be in the office tomorrow for a long day, but one that will see the return of Workforce at Sandown. I will be analysing his race in the Blog tomorrow. For now though all the best on this sunny morning.
