Tanya's Blog - 28th June 2011

I was stuck in the archive library so long yesterday researching stats for this weekend that I thought when I finally pushed the door to come out it would open out to Narnia! The dust was blown off 50 years of form books trying to unearth the occasions when Derby and Oaks winners met as four-year-olds, so please Workforce and Snow Fairy both run! For some reason, 'my wish is your command' thing never works, fate is sure to deal a cynical and cruel blow. Today it’s back in the archive to dig out the Derby winners who ran in the Coral-Eclipse.

Much is being said about Sir Michael Stoute’s form, this month he has had five winners from his 47 runners, the last 23 all beaten, all of us go through lulls in form, but as good as Workforce has proved to be, he is vulnerable over 10 furlongs and So You Think is the one horse who can expose that. The weather can be the determining factor in all of this.
What I do know is, if all eight stand their ground, Sri Putra will be massive value each-way, he performed above himself in last year’s race and there was more of the same in behind Rewilding and So You Think at Royal Ascot.

It is very hard to find a selection amongst today’s offering. Cathy Gannon could once again show her tactical guile aboard ATHAAKEEL in Brighton’s 2.30, while William Buick may well upset the odds aboard SCREENPRINT in Brighton’s 3.00. Camberley Two is odds-on for that event at present. Coming last in a three-horse race beaten by 15 lengths is hardly a confidence boost but dropping back two furlongs may help.

Lee Newman has had five winners, two seconds and two thirds from his last 14 rides

Brian Ellison has had five winners from his last 17 runners

Jim Goldie has had four winners, two seconds and a third from his last 13 runners

John Gosden has had four winners from his last seven runners

Michael Attwater has had three winners from his last seven runners

Signposts page 19 of the Racing Post flags up that Shawkantango is unbeaten in four starts at Southwell

The favourite has won all four runnings of Hamilton’s 2.45

Paul Hanagan has won or been placed on five of his seven rides in Hamilton 3.45

Sir Mark Prescott has had six winners from his last 11 runners at Hamilton
