Captain's Blog - 26th August 2011 My wife has one of those clever Android phones, unfortunately last night it gave up the ghost. As the manual tells us to do we rang customer services who informed us that it was too late in the evening to be calling for technical services. We were told to phone back at 8.00am this morning. This we have just done only to be told that the technical services department has some technical issues! You could not make it up. Technical issues at 8.00am in the morning can be roughly translated into the lads are still having their breakfast in the canteen, or more likely have not got to work yet. Apparently if we phone back at 9.00am our problem can be dealt with, yep the technical team should all be in by then! Not a great way to start the day and what’s more the McNae family are all under the weather at the moment which is not a problem but my daughter has never had a cold before and aside from our obvious concern for her we are arming ourselves with tissues and wipes galore. It could be a long weekend! It is just about my favourite weekend of the year. This is because it is Challenge Cup weekend. The Rugby League Challenge Cup is a fabulous and historic event and we normally make our way to Wembley every year. This year we will be sneezing and spluttering our way through it form the comfort of our living room. The match this year is between Wigan Warriors and Leeds Rhinos. Wigan are the odds on favourites and deserve to be .They have been outstanding all year and with Leeds being somewhat inconsistent Wigan should win and cover the 12 point handicap. That said there is rain forecast which can be a great leveler and the Challenge Cup can throw up shock results. Every Wiganer cringes at the mention of Sheffield Eagles who beat them against the odds many years ago, so you just never know. Before I can settle back to some quality Rugby league I have a day in the studio to negotiate. I will be in the Studio with Dave Nevison handling all the action from Thirsk, the main men in the form of Nail Hannity and Chris Dixon will be at Newmarket for us. It will be a busy and enjoyable day. Join us from 1.00pm. Now I had better ring that technical services team before they decide that it is Friday so they can have an early bath or that it is time for lunch. I am not hopeful of a resolution today, but miracles do happen as Sheffield Eagles supporters will tell you. All the best.
Today's Selection 5.05 Newmarket - Elusivity (each way 5/1 Betfred )
