Captain's Blog - Thursday 25th October

A day in the studio for me today with Mark Howard as my guest. It will be good to work with Mark again, and we will be taking the strain as far as Carlisle is concerned. Ludlow is also on the channel today and that will be where our on-course presenters will be based. With my head very much still tuned into the Flat season I am pleased that Mark will be there to guide me through the jumps form that is on offer today. Once the Breeders' Cup is done and dusted I will then be able to turn my full attention to the jumps season, for now Mark's in-depth knowledge will be invaluable.

With the Breeders' Cup in mind, do try and catch this month's edition of Planet Turf, during which James Willoughby and myself look ahead to this end-of-season bonanza. The programme will go out for the first time today and then you will be able to see it again during the week, in particular on this week's edition of Racing Breakfast on Sunday.

Earlier this week I suggested that we back Wise Dan for the Breeders Cup mile at Coral at 100/30. I am still happy with the bet, particularly because after the pre-entries were made yesterday the horse has been put in at 2/1 by the odds compilers in the States.

I would now like to add another selection to my Breeders' Cup portfolio. The horse runs in the Ladies Classic and is last year's winner of this race, Royal Delta. She has been put in as the 5/2 favorite to repeat her win of last year and I think that is a decent price, She could easily be as short as 6/4 on the day. She is also in the Classic and is second favorite for that and would be a legitimate contender for that, but in the Ladies' Classic she is a stand out at 5/2. Her prep race win was impressive and this division is not particularly strong.

My selection today is No Dominion in the 1.30 at Southwell. He took well to the Fibresand last time when winning in a fair time and off a mark of 61 he can win again. Having Graham Lee on board is a bonus and he can be backed at 7/2. I see the predictor believes he is a good wager, also.

Today's Selection

1.30 Southwell - 4* No Dominion

Antepost Selection:

Breeders' Cup Ladies Classic - Royal Delta

Already advised: Breeder's Cup Mile - Wise Dan

* If I have a strong view about a selection I will always make that apparent and I scale the confidence I have in my selections. One is minimum faith and 10 is maximum bet stuff.
